Your Estate Planning To-Do List (Step 4 – Conversations & Further Planning)

by | Dec 14, 2022 | Wills & Estates

Over our last few weeks and over those coming, we are taking you through the 5 steps of our estate planning ‘to-list’.  We have so far discussed:

  1. Gathering Information;
  2. Seeking Advice; and
  3. Making Decisions and Drafting Documents.

Now we move onto Step 4.

Conversations and Further Planning

It is important to discuss your wishes with your family and your loved ones.  It is important to let your executors know of the location of your original Will and make sure they know where to access any information or documents that they may need access to upon your death.

You may want to give copies of your Enduring Power of Attorney or Appointment of Medical Treatment Decision Makers to those who may need it in the future or, at least tell them where the original is should they ever need access to it.

You should also consider making a funeral plan or at least having conversations with your loved ones about your wishes so that when the time comes, they know what you want and don’t need to have the added stress of making these decisions.

You may also with to prepare additional documents such as a Pet Profile Care Plan or a Digital Asset List so that your executor knows passwords to online accounts, etc to be able to deal with these upon our death.
