Over our last article and over the coming weeks, we will take you through the 5 steps of our Estate Planning ‘To-Do List’ so that we can ensure that you have considered every aspect that may need to be dealt with as part of the estate planning process.
We have previously covered Step 1 – Gathering Information and now discuss Step 2.
Step 2 – Seeking advice
When making an estate plan, depending on the complexities of your assets or situation, you should firstly be seeking advice and assistance from an experienced lawyer who will work closely with you and your advisers to ensure documents are prepared correctly.
Your lawyer will work closely with your financial planner, should you have one to ensure all information regarding your assets is correct and also how those assets are to grow or accumulate in the future.
Your lawyer and financial planner will also work closely with your accountant to consider any tax benefits that could be achieved through your estate plan and to deal with any business assets you may have. Your accountant will also be able to assist in setting up a succession plan for any business interests you have.
