The Western Australia Construction Visa Subsidy Program

by | Sep 29, 2023 | Migration

In a world where infrastructure development and construction projects are the cornerstone of economic development, governments all over the world are often finding themselves facing the challenge of attracting and retaining skilled labour. In stimulating economic growth in this sector, the Government of Western Australia have introduced the Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP) to incentivise talent in the construction sector to choose Western Australia to provide their skills and experience. The program allows eligible Western Australian construction businesses and individuals to receive up to $10,000.

The Business

Western Australian construction businesses can receive up to $10,000 from the Western Australian government for each skilled migrant they employ.

To be eligible for the grant, the business must:

  1. Sponsor an overseas worker on either a subclass 482, 494 or 186.
  2. Nominate an eligible occupation.
  3. Have their head office located in Western Australia
  4. Be undertaking building and construction work.

Although the employer is eligible for the grant under the above mentioned visas, the overseas worker who is being sponsored under either of these visas will not be eligible for the grant.

Overseas Workers

Similar to eligible constructions business in Western Australia, an individual looking to work in Western Australia can also earn up to $10,000 in grants from the Government of Western Australia.

To be eligible for the CVSP Grant, an overseas worker looking to travel to Australia must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be granted a subclass 190 or 491 visa under the Western Australia State Nominated Migration Program;
  2. Be employed by a building and construction business whose headquarters are in Western Australia; and
  3. Work in an eligible occupation.

The eligible visas under this grant pathway operate on a points-based system. This means that the person must have a minimum of 65 points to apply. It is not a guarantee that they will be invited by the government to apply for these visas, and the more points they have, the more likely they will be invited to apply for one of these visas.
