On November 14, 2024, the Women in Law Forum brought together leading female legal professionals for a day of insightful discussions and networking. Attended by Nevett Ford Lawyers’ own Erin Trantino, Heather Dzviti, Lili Sibic, Caroline Mostafa, and Kiri Stefanidis, the event showcased the expertise and achievements of women in law while addressing key challenges in the profession.
A session on Defamation Law stood out as a highlight, addressing the complexities of protecting reputations in the digital age. With social media amplifying the risks of online defamation, speakers delved into recent cases, evolving legal principles, and the difficulties of balancing free speech with accountability.
Another impactful moment was Kate Jenkins’ presentation on the Respect@Work initiative. The former Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner shared practical insights from her groundbreaking work, emphasizing the importance of cultural change and robust workplace policies to combat sexual harassment. Her recommendations remain essential for fostering safer, more equitable workplaces.
Nevett Ford Lawyers is proud to actively support the growth and success of our women lawyers. Our new parent policy reflects this commitment, offering flexible work schedules with an option to go part-time upon returning from leave. We provide a paid parental top-up and maintain superannuation contributions during leave, along with additional support for a smooth transition back to work.
The forum also provided a platform for meaningful networking, enabling attendees to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore strategies for navigating their careers. It celebrated the contributions of women in law while promoting inclusivity and progress in the profession.
The Women in Law Forum 2024 was more than an event—it was a call to action for continued advocacy and collaboration. By spotlighting critical issues and empowering attendees, it reaffirmed the vital role of women in shaping the future of the legal industry.
