Nevett Ford Lawyers has successfully assisted a significant number of highly talented and exceptional individuals of international reputation to obtain Australian permanent residence through the previous Distinguished Talent Visa, now the Global Talent Visa.
The Global Talent Visa is designed to attract highly talented individuals with entrepreneurial ideas and cutting-edge skills within the targeted sectors, who are capable of making a contribution to the Australian economy by driving innovation and creating jobs for the local labour market.
To be eligible for the Global Talent Visa, applicants should be highly skilled with an internationally recognised reputation and outstanding achievements in one of the following 10 target sectors:
- Resources
- Agri-food and AgTech
- Energy
- Health industries
- Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
- Circular Economy
- DigiTech
- Infrastructure and Tourism
- Financial Services and FinTech
Further, applicants must prove:
- that they are still prominent in their respective field of expertise,
- that they would be an asset in their field of expertise to Australia,
- that they would have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field, and
- that they have the ability to attract a salary of no less than the Fair Work High Income Threshold of AUD153,600 per annum (noting that this figure is adjusted annually on 1 July).
Moreover, each applicant must be nominated by a recognised organisation or individual with a national reputation (who must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident) as global talent in the same field as the applicant.
Applicants need to, first, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Department of Home Affairs with carefully prepared documentation demonstrating their internationally recognised outstanding and exceptional achievements in one of the above 10 target sectors, as well as their ability to attract the required minimum annual salary. If the Departments considers the applicant to meet the program parameters, a unique Invitation Reference Identifier and Invitation Code will be issued which the applicant can then lodge their application for a Global Talent Visa. All applicants, including their family members, are also required to pass health and character checks.
In addition to the Global Talent Visa, the Australian government has established a Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce (“the Taskforce”), which is a cross-agency government initiative to bring the best and brightest businesses and talent to Australia. The Taskforce offers tailored support for high-yield businesses or exceptional talent to relocate to Australia.
